And let my coverage of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics officially begin!
In a dramatic mishap Sunday during a World Cup four-man bobsled race in St. Moritz, Switzerland, U.S. driver Kris Horn completed a solo run down the icy track after his three push athletes were unable to board the sled at the start.
As is standard in bobsled, Horn entered the sled first to take his position at the controls. However, his teammates — Ryan Rager, Hunter Powell and Caleb Furnell — encountered immediate difficulties getting in, resulting in the sled launching down the course with only Horn aboard and no additional weight or braking support from the crew. Rager seemingly stumbled first as he attempted to enter, triggering a chain reaction among the group. Powell was flung forcefully toward the track wall, striking his back against the hardened ice after failing to secure his spot in the sled, while Furnell also couldn’t climb aboard in time. Fortunately, none of the American athletes sustained major injuries, and subsequent X-rays for all involved returned negative results, according to the team per ESPN.
With the sled carrying significantly less weight than intended, Horn hurtled down the track at speeds approaching 75 mph during the roughly minute-long run. Displaying remarkable composure, he successfully guided the sled across the finish line before shifting his position toward the rear and activating the brake handles to bring it to a stop.

Some frightening scenes out of yesterday’s four-man bobsled race in St. Moritz.
USA’s Kris Horn had to navigate the big sled on his own after three teammates failed to board.
It all starts when Hunter Powell slips and goes from there.

I hope somebody bought a beer for Kris Horn after that (particularly his teammates), because my God, that was terrifying just to watch.
