Texas Cop Shot in the Neck Outside ICE Facility in Alleged Coordinated Attack [WATCH]

A police officer in Alvarado, Texas, was shot late Thursday night during what authorities describe as a coordinated attack outside the Prairieland Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Detention Facility.

According to the Alvarado Police Department, the incident began just before 11 p.m. when officers responded to a report of a suspicious person near the federal facility.

When police arrived at the scene, they encountered what appeared to be an armed individual.

As one officer attempted to engage, multiple suspects allegedly opened fire, striking the officer in the neck.

The officer was airlifted to a hospital in Fort Worth for emergency treatment.

Alvarado police confirmed Friday that the officer was treated and later released.

The officer’s identity has not yet been disclosed.

Law enforcement officials said several suspects attempted to flee the scene but were quickly apprehended with assistance from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

A federal source told CBS News that eight individuals were taken into custody.

Some of the suspects were reportedly wearing body armor at the time of the incident.

Authorities have not yet released the names of those arrested.

Preliminary reports indicate the attack may have been premeditated.

According to CBS News, more than a dozen masked individuals dressed in black arrived at the ICE facility late Thursday.

They allegedly vandalized vehicles and surveillance equipment and launched fireworks, possibly to create a diversion or lure officers into an ambush.

Local and federal law enforcement agencies are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Officials have not released a definitive motive, but early evidence suggests the suspects may have been targeting the facility or attempting to provoke a law enforcement response.

The Department of Justice acknowledged the incident in a statement released Saturday morning.

The DOJ noted that it is “closely monitoring the attacks on DHS facilities in Prairieland, TX, and Portland, OR, and are coordinating with the USAOs and our law enforcement partners.”

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche stated, “The department has zero tolerance for assaults on federal officers or property and will bring the full weight of the law against those responsible.”

The FBI has declined to provide further comment on the ongoing investigation. Alvarado Police Chief Brad Anderson confirmed that the department is leading the local investigation and continues to gather information.

The Prairieland ICE Detention Facility, located about 40 miles south of Fort Worth, houses detainees in federal immigration custody.
