‘The View’ co-hosts run cover for Katie Porter after she lashed out at reporter

Daily Caller News Foundation

“The View” co-hosts made excuses for Democratic California gubernatorial candidate Katie Porter after she threatened to end an interview over a reporter’s simple question.

Viral footage from September showed Porter lashing out at CBS News California reporter Julie Watts for asking about her plans to appeal to the 40% of Californians who voted for President Donald Trump. The co-hosts went to the mat to defend Porter by trying to convince their audience that she simply had a “bad” day.

“Listen, anything is possible. But she said in a statement that she’s striving to do better, saying ‘I have strived to be more intentional in showing gratitude to my staff for their important work.’ Now, you know, some people are apparently surprised by these videos. I am not,” Goldberg said. “We see these videos with guys, we saw it with … Bill O’Reilly, we’ve seen it with Laura Ingraham. We’ve seen it with lots of different people. We’ve seen it with actors. You know, and [President Donald Trump] always says to people, ‘oh, you’re the worst, I don’t like you. I don’t know who you are, I don’t know why you’re here.’ You know, maybe people are having a bad day. I can’t imagine it can be easy to be running for something.”

“Let me just say it like this, you know, in a perfect world, yeah. But human beings have bad days and human beings are not always capable of realizing that they’re stepping in poo,” Goldberg continued.

Co-host Ana Navarro claimed that people who cuss regularly tend to be more intelligent. Joy Behar also argued that President Donald Trump constantly lashes out at people.

“So how come every time Trump has a meltdown his popularity increases?” Behar asked, with co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin replying that Trump is a unique case.

Griffin argued that Porter is rightly receiving criticism since Watts asked a fair question during their interview.

Porter’s current predicament is not an isolated incident. A newly surfaced video from 2021 showed Porter cussing at a staffer on camera and telling her to “get out of [her] fucking shot.” The staffer approached her to correct Porter’s earlier statement on electric vehicles, prompting the then-representative to get angrier.

Divorce court documents obtained by the Daily Mail in 2023 alleged that Porter poured a bowl of “steaming hot boiled potatoes” over her then-husband’s head. She also faced accusations of abusing her staffers and making “racist” remarks in the workplace.

Porter is currently leading in the Democratic gubernatorial primary, but is trailing behind Republican candidate Steve Hilton by 6%, according to a Zogby Strategies poll conducted with a messaging retest. She previously lost her bid for the Senate to Democratic California Sen. Adam Schiff in March 2024.
