I love baseball, and still think it’s poppin’, but Trump isn’t wrong … the golden days are gone.
It happened to be a celebration centered around a soccer club, however, President Donald Trump was also in the mood to talk a little baseball Thursday afternoon at the White House.
And to be more particular, he was talking about his distaste with the modern-day product that Major League Baseball has on the field.
Trump was playing host to Inter Miami CF, who won the 2025 MLS Cup with the legendary Lionel Messi leading the way, when he brought up baseball. (RELATED: Lionel Messi, Inter Miami Visit President Trump At White House)
“I love sports and I watched my friend A-Rod with George Steinbrenner – we’d sit in his box just the two of us,” said Trump while looking over at the iconic Alex Rodriguez who was sitting down towards the president’s left. A-Rod was seemingly at the White House to participate in another event, with Trump ultimately mentioning that he spoke with Rodriguez and that he wanted him to join for the MLS ceremony.
“He would never have anybody but me,” said Trump when speaking about the late New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. “He liked me, right? He liked me, he liked you. He liked almost nobody.”
That’s when Trump made the move to throw criticism at MLB.
“It would be a World Series when baseball was hot – it’s not as hot now, I’ll be honest with you. They do things wrong,” said Trump without explaining what exactly he meant. “But when baseball was hot as a pistol, I’d sit [with Steinbrenner] and I’d watch the Yankees. They’d have 30 seats, and it would just be me and him.”
My Uncle Trump … keepin’ it a bean since, well, forever.
