Thomas Massie Teams Up with AOC, Dems to Block Trump’s Military Support for Israel

Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., announced Monday night that he will introduce a bipartisan War Powers Resolution to prevent the United States from entering the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, as reported by Fox News.

The measure, set to be introduced Tuesday, seeks to block any unauthorized military involvement by U.S. forces without explicit congressional approval.

“This is not our war. But if it were, Congress must decide such matters according to our Constitution,” Massie posted on X. “I’m introducing a bipartisan War Powers Resolution tomorrow to prohibit our involvement. I invite all members of Congress to cosponsor this resolution.”

The move received immediate support from members of both parties. Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., responded on X that he is “proud to co-lead this bipartisan War Powers Resolution with Rep. Massie that is privileged and must receive a vote.”

Khanna added, “No war in Iran. It’s time for every member to go on record. Are you with the neocons who led us into Iraq or do you stand with the American people?”

Several progressive Democrats also expressed support. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., replied “Signing on.”

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., wrote, “I look forward to supporting this War Powers Resolution. The American people aren’t falling for it again. We were lied to about ‘weapons of mass destruction’ in Iraq that killed millions + forever changed lives. It’s unconst’l for Trump to go to war without a vote in Congress.”

The resolution arrives as the conflict between Israel and Iran enters its fifth day, raising concerns among lawmakers about potential U.S. involvement.

Rep. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., who was recently endorsed for re-election by President Donald Trump, pushed back against the resolution. “If AOC and Massie are a yes, that’s a good bet that I’ll be a no,” Lawler said.

“Iran, China, Russia, and North Korea are not our friends or our allies — in fact, they are working to undermine us and destabilize the free world. A nuclear Iran will seek to eradicate Israel and all but ensure WWIII. We cannot allow that to happen. We must stand with Israel.”

In the Senate, Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia introduced a similar resolution on Monday, directing the President to terminate any use of U.S. Armed Forces in hostilities against Iran unless explicitly authorized by Congress.

“It is not in our national security interest to get into a war with Iran unless that war is absolutely necessary to defend the United States,” Kaine said. “The American people have no interest in sending servicemembers to fight another forever war in the Middle East.”

Both resolutions are expected to spark debate in Congress as tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate.
