According to law enforcement sources, Boelter, 57, allegedly impersonated a police officer before entering the home of State Senator John Hoffman and shooting both the senator and his wife.
Both sustained serious injuries but survived the attack.
Police believe Boelter then traveled to the residence of former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman, where he fatally shot both Hortman and her husband.

Boelter was appointed by Governor Walz in 2019 to serve a four-year term on the Governor’s Workforce Development Board, official documents confirm.
He also previously served on the Governor’s Workforce Development Council in 2016 under then-Governor Mark Dayton.
His ties to state government have raised questions as the investigation continues into his motive and any potential affiliations that could have influenced the attacks.
Law enforcement officials recovered printed materials from the suspect’s vehicle that included fliers containing the phrase “No Kings,” which authorities said may be connected to political demonstrations that had been scheduled for Saturday.

Police also confirmed that a “manifesto” and a list containing the names of additional political figures were found with Boelter’s belongings.
Authorities did not immediately release the contents of the document or details about the individuals named.
Police briefly cornered Boelter at the Hortman residence but reported that he fled the scene before he could be apprehended.
A statewide manhunt is currently underway. Law enforcement agencies are urging the public to be vigilant and report any sightings or information that may lead to his arrest.
Champlin police have not provided additional details about how Boelter was able to enter the lawmakers’ homes, whether he used official-looking law enforcement attire, or what kind of weapon was used.
Investigators are working with state and federal agencies to determine if the shootings were politically motivated or part of a broader planned attack.
It is unclear at this time whether Boelter had continued involvement in state programs following the end of his term.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is leading the investigation and coordinating with other law enforcement agencies to locate the suspect.
Authorities confirmed the manifesto included threats toward other public officials and more.

Senator Hoffman remains hospitalized, and no update on his condition or that of his wife has been provided as of Monday morning.
This developing story has drawn national attention due to the high-profile political ties of both the victims and the suspect.
Investigators are expected to hold a press briefing once additional details are confirmed.
Law enforcement continues to urge anyone with knowledge of Boelter’s whereabouts to contact the Champlin Police Department or the Minnesota BCA immediately.
