Timothy Busfield Turns Himself In To Cops On Child Sex Charges

Actor Timothy Busfield issued a statement of innocence before surrendering to law enforcement in New Mexico on child sex charges.

Prosecutors charged him with child abuse and criminal sexual contact with a minor and an arrest warrant was issued earlier in January, according to TMZ. Two underage boys alleged they were sexually abused in 2022 when they were child actors on the set of “The Cleaning Lady,” directed by Busfield.

The actor vehemently denied the allegations against him in a video recorded in his lawyer’s office and shared with TMZ.

“I got the call Friday night, I had to get a lawyer,” Busfield said.

“Saturday I got in a car, drove 2,000 miles to Albuquerque.”

He pushed back against the claims filed against him.

“I’m gonna confront these lies –  they’re horrible, they’re all lies, and I did not do anything to those little boys!” he said.

Busfield continued, “and I’m gonna fight it – I’m gonna fight it with a great team, and I’m gonna be exonerated, I know I am, because this is all so wrong – and all lies! he said.

Busfield signed off by thanking those that continue to support him, and noted that he hopes to be back at work soon.

Prosecutors claim the boys were 7 and 8 at the time of the alleged assault and their parents reported the alleged crimes to the Albuquerque police two years later, sparking a criminal investigation, according to TMZ.

Busfield’s civil lawyer, Larry Stein told the outlet that he believes the charges were filed as part of a revenge plot against the actor.

He referenced the criminal complaint which reportedly said an actress on set claimed that the mother of both boys told her she vowed to get revenge because her sons were cut from the final season of the show, according to TMZ.

Stein claimed Warner Bros. initiated an independent investigation with an outside law firm and the investigator interviewed approximately a dozen people. An arrest warrant was issued Friday and the U.S. Marshals Service have since been assisting New Mexico authorities in locating Busfield.

The actor is best known for his roles in “The West Wing,” “Revenge of the Nerds,” “Thirtysomething,” and “Field of Dreams.”

He was featured in an episode of “Law & Order: SVU” slated for release this week, but the decision was made not to air that specific episode, according to TMZ.
