Trailer Park Residents Told They Have 3 Months To Make Way For Massive Data Center

Almost 28 mobile home residents in Mason County, Kentucky, have three months to vacate after their trailer park was put under contract for sale to an AI company planning a massive data center, according to reports.

Meadowland Village residents in Maysville, Kentucky, received a letter from DPD Property Management informing them the park is under contract with a potential buyer looking to build a hyperscale data center complex on more than 2,000 acres of nearby farmland, according to LEX 18. Many of the residents are elderly or disabled.

The developer initially offered each resident up to $20,000 for moving expenses but has since raised that figure to $50,000, contingent on the property being rezoned, according to WKRC. (RELATED: Data Center Issue Exploding Into Full View All Across America)

“$20,000 ain’t nothing,” resident Rico Roberts told LEX 18. Roger Purcell, who is battling kidney disease, said there aren’t enough trailer parks in the area to absorb the displaced residents.

Mason County ordinance only allows mobile homes on rural residential or agricultural zoned land, requiring one to five acres per lot, the outlet reported. Purcell told LEX 18 the added costs of water, electricity and sewage make the move even more burdensome.

Attorney Hank Graddy vowed to file a lawsuit on behalf of residents to block the rezoning. At a public hearing, developer attorney Tanner Nichols refused to name the company behind the project, identifying it only as a “Fortune 500 tech company,” according to WCPO. The company’s identity has only been shared with select officials bound by non-disclosure agreements, WEKU reported.

The project would bring an estimated 2,000 construction jobs and about 400 operational positions, according to WEKU.
