‘Trans men are men’: Planned Parenthood mocked after urging men to test for cervical cancer

Planned Parenthood saw questions raised about its medical know-how after promoting cervical cancer screenings — for men.

“It’s Men’s Health Month, and that means highlighting the health needs of ALL men,” said the June 21 post on Planned Parenthood of Southern New England’s Facebook page. “Trans men are men and need cervical cancer screenings, too. Here are some ways to make cervical cancer screening more comfortable!”

According to MedlinePlus, “the cervix is the lower part of the womb (uterus).”

The post was accompanied by a drawing of a topless person with short pink hair and what appeared to be scars from a double mastectomy, a form of “gender-affirming care” performed on women and girls who identify as male.

The Facebook message drew 68,000 “laugh” emojis and 5,400 “shares,” but the comments feature had been disabled.

That didn’t stop commenters from sharing their views on X, where the post made the rounds Tuesday after being shared by Libs of TikTok and other conservative accounts.

“Planned Parenthood of Southern New England is now recommending cervical cancer screening for trans dudes. Taxpayer dollars are being spent on these services. What a racket,” said Jonathan Choe, a Discovery Institute senior fellow.

David Stone, a former Republican candidate for the Rhode Island legislature, added: “Biological men do not need cervical screenings because they are not women and don’t have a cervix.”

The post itself received 61 “likes” on Instagram, as well as a shout-out from Planned Parenthood of Northern New England, which replied, “Thank you for all you do!”

The hoopla over the Men’s Health Month post comes at a particularly fraught moment for Planned Parenthood, which faces the loss of federal funding in the budget reconciliation bill now before the Senate.

Planned Parenthood has said that the defunding measure would force it to close as many as 200 of its 600 clinics, which are run by its 48 affiliates.

The organization received nearly $800 million in government reimbursements and grants in fiscal 2022-23, representing 39% of its revenue, according to its latest annual report.

The nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood has become in recent years a leading provider of cross-sex hormones to patients seeking to change their gender.

The Connecticut legislature approved in February an emergency bill sending $800,000 to Planned Parenthood for Southern New England to stockpile mifepristone, one of two drugs used in the abortion-pill process, over concerns about shortages.
