President Donald Trump’s administration has made no moves to officially mark June as Pride Month during the first year of his second term.
On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt revealed that the administration has “no plans” to recognize the month of June as Pride Month, which is in keeping with Trump’s previous term. He broke from the tradition in 2019 with an X post urging Americans to “stand in solidarity with the many LGBT people” living in countries that criminalize homosexual behavior.

….on the basis of their sexual orientation. My Administration has launched a global campaign to decriminalize homosexuality and invite all nations to join us in this effort!

“As we celebrate LGBT Pride Month and recognize the outstanding contributions LGBT people have made to our great Nation, let us also stand in solidarity with the many LGBT people who live in dozens of countries worldwide that punish, imprison, or even execute individuals on the basis of their sexual orientation. My Administration has launched a global campaign to decriminalize homosexuality and invite all nations to join us in this effort!” Trump wrote.
Human Rights Campaign National Press Secretary Brandon Wolf took exception to the lack of recognition from the White House.
“This is going to come as maybe tough news for the Trump administration to stomach, but June is Pride Month, whether they choose to acknowledge that or not,” he said. “And Pride is, and always has been, a protest, whether they choose to acknowledge that or not.”
“This hostile rhetoric, the lengths to which they’ve gone to punish people for existing as LGBTQ, all of it is a testament to just how much our power scares them,” he added, noting that Washington D.C., is hosting the international LGBTQ event WorldPride. This is expected to draw millions of supporters to the city, many of whom will likely attempt to pressure the administration into issuing proclamations.
