Trump declares war on the Federalist Society after discovery of ‘real sleazebag’

President Donald Trump has declared war on the Federalist Society in a move that has leftists salivating with glee.

Last week, after a court featuring one of his judges ruled against his tariffs, the president slammed the Federalist Society in a Truth Social post, blaming them for having recommended he appoint the judge to the bench.

“It was suggested that I use the Federalist Society as a recommending source on Judges,” he wrote. “I did so, openly and freely, but then realized that they were under the thumb of a real ‘sleazebag’ named Leonard Leo, a bad person who, in his own way, probably hates America and obviously has his own separate ambitions.”

“I am so disappointed in The Federalist Society because of the bad advice they gave me on numerous Judicial Nominations,”  he added.

Leo was the conservative legal organization’s longtime president.

According to close Trump legal ally Mike Davis, the president has a valid reason to be angry at Leo and the Federalist Society as a whole.

“They abandoned President Trump during the lawfare against him,” he told The Hill. “And not only did they abandon him — they had several FedSoc leaders who participated in the lawfare and threw gas on the fire.”

Plus, Leo was behind the “lists” of Supreme Court candidates that included current Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett, all three of whom have, during their tenure in the high court, sometimes made questionable rulings siding with the left.

Leo, for his part, responded to Trump’s furious Truth Social post with a statement last Friday to reporters.

“I’m very grateful for President Trump transforming the Federal Courts, and it was a privilege being involved,” he said. “There’s more work to be done, for sure, but the Federal Judiciary is better than it’s ever been in modern history, and that will be President Trump’s most important legacy.”

He did have a point about the Federal Judiciary being at its best compared to times past.

“The three justices [Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett] have delivered significant wins for the conservative legal movement, including expanding the Second Amendment, overturning the constitutional right to abortion, reining in federal agency power, and reinforcing religious rights,” The Hill notes.

Meanwhile, former President Mike Pence has also come to the Federalist Society’s defense.

Look what he tweeted Monday:

While there do appear to be some valid reasons to dislike the Federalist Project, critics say the primary problem with Trump’s attacks on Leo and the conservative organization is the leftist response.

Indeed, leftists have been responding to the attack with glee.

“Last week, for the first time in my life, I got to experience this aspect of Trump’s appeal. On Truth Social, Trump said mean things about one of my enemies: Leonard Leo. And, truth be told, it was glorious,” a leftist writer for The Nation wrote.

This because, as noted earlier, the Federalist Society is responsible for so many good things, including saving Trump’s butt.

“Donald Trump should realize that an independent judiciary is to his benefit too, because if it weren’t for Federalist Society judges, he would be in jail right now,” UC Berkeley Law Professor John Yoo noted during a recent Wall Street Journal podcast.

“[I]t was the Roberts Court that said former presidents just can’t be prosecuted for crimes. And I think because Roberts, because Thomas Alito, because particularly Barrett, Kavanaugh, and Gorsuch are not seen as just rubber stampers for Trump, the Supreme Court makes that decision, that debate is over, and Donald Trump can run for office and win in the 2024 election,” he added.

Nevertheless, in remarks made to The Hill, Davis stressed that there’s no going back.

“We have to update our playbook, and we have to have a different prototype for judges,” he said. “They need to be bold and fearless, like Emil Bove. And I’m not saying they need to be bold and fearless for Trump. They need to be bold and fearless for the Constitution.”
