Trump directs Hegseth to deploy troops to ‘war ravaged’ Portland

President Donald Trump is continuing his crusade to clean up crime in American cities, with his next stop being Portland.

In a Truth Social post Trump directed Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to “provide all necessary troops to protect war ravaged Portland, and any of our ICE facilities under siege from attack by Antifa.”

At the end of the message, he noted that he was authorizing “full force, if necessary,” but did not clarify what that meant.

The president spoke about the situation in Portland on Thursday during remarks from the Oval Office.

“You go out to Portland, people die out there. Many people have died over the years in Portland. Portland is, I don’t know how anybody lives there. It’s amazing, but it’s, it’s anarchy out there. That’s what they want. They want anarchy,” he said.

Last week, he noted that the city was “out of control” and said implied that he was going to step in to help them out “very soon.”

“Have you seen Portland at all? If you take a look what’s happening in Portland. It’s it has been going on for years. Just people out of control, crazy. We’re going to stop that very soon,” Trump said at the time.

The announcement follows the fatal shooting at a Dallas ICE facility in which 3 detainees were shot, leaving two injured and one dead. The suspect would go on to end his own life.

Portland Mayor Keith Wilson reacted to the announcement on Friday.

“This is disappointing news. We did not ask for them to come. They are here without precedent or purpose. We have seen how their presence harms commerce and prosperity and opportunity in other cities like Washington, D.C.”
