Trump Gives Strict Deadline To Reopen Strait Of Hormuz

President Donald Trump posted a cryptic but unmistakable message on Truth Social Sunday afternoon.

Trump posted “Tuesday, 8:00 P.M. Eastern Time!” on Truth Social without further explanation. The timestamp matched a Wall Street Journal interview in which Trump laid out what happens if Iran fails to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by then. “If they don’t do something by Tuesday evening, they won’t have any power plants and they won’t have any bridges standing,” Trump told WSJ.

Tuesday’s cutoff is the latest in a series of ultimatums Trump has directed at Tehran. He first demanded Iran fully reopen the strait within 48 hours on March 21, vowing to destroy the country’s power grid. That window was extended twice before landing on April 6 as a firm date, according to Axios. Indirect diplomatic channels involving Pakistan, Egypt and Turkey failed to produce any breakthrough, the outlet reported.

Tehran has refused to budge. Iran’s U.N. mission accused Trump of threatening war crimes, and an Iranian presidential communications official said the strait would only reopen under a new toll-based arrangement requiring war reparations, CNBC reported. Brent crude futures closed above $109 on Thursday, with the spot price running more than $32 higher due to severe physical supply shortages tied to the strait’s effective shutdown.

Hours before setting the 8 p.m. deadline, Trump called Iranian leaders “crazy bastards” in a post on Truth Social and warned they would be “living in Hell” if the waterway stayed closed, as The Caller previously reported. U.S. gas prices have climbed past $4 per gallon since the conflict erupted, and strait traffic has plummeted more than 90%.

Trump is scheduled to address reporters from the White House on Monday, according to CBS News.
