Trump policies reinvigorating American pipelines Biden stifled

Several energy companies are reportedly searching for ways to build more natural gas pipelines as President Donald Trump pursues pro-energy policies and forecasts project surging electricity demand, according to Reuters.

Multiple firms are looking to expand natural gas pipelines and other infrastructure to help tap into gas deposits in the Appalachian Basin, including Williams Companies, Boardwalk Pipeline, DT Midstream and EQT, according to Reuters. The Trump administration has worked to expand natural gas projects, which stands in contrast to former President Joe Biden’s crackdown on pipelines that included major regulation and outright project cancellations.

“We are actively evaluating opportunities to expand infrastructure. Enhancing pipeline capacity is essential to unlocking Appalachian supply and delivering reliable, low-carbon energy to growing markets across the country,” EQT spokesperson Amy Rogers told the DCNF. “Addressing this infrastructure gap is not just a regional priority — it is a national energy and economic imperative.”

The firms hope to build or expand pipelines and other infrastructure to take advantage of resources in the Northeast and the Appalachian Basin, a region that is rich in natural gas.

The reported search for expansion is unfolding as the electricity demand in the Northeast soars, and the Trump administration incentivizes the energy technology through natural gas export agreements, deregulatory moves and expedited approvals for major natural gas projects.

Biden revoked the permit for the major Keystone XL pipeline project that was expected to boost America’s energy independence and create jobs on his first day in the Oval Office in 2021. Another major pipeline project, the Mountain Valley Pipeline, suffered long delays and was only completed thanks to a Congressional debt ceiling deal.

The Biden administration also made it easier for blue states to block oil and gas pipelines, which were already difficult to build due to strict regulations and environmental lawsuits that delay and impede projects.

Biden not only imposed new hurdles for pipeline developers, but also targeted the natural gas industry by freezing approvals for liquified natural gas (LNG) export terminals in January 2024.

The environmental lobby celebrated when Biden implemented the freeze, though critics argued that the policy hindered investment, would not reduce emissions and compromised America’s ability to exert strategic influence globally. Notably, Biden’s crackdown on LNG exports was aided by the suppression of a study that would have cut against common arguments justifying the policy, the Daily Caller News Foundation previously reported.
