Trump says he will not let Israel annex West Bank

President Trump said he would not allow Israel to annex the occupied West Bank, saying “there’s been enough.”

“I will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank. Nope, I will not allow it. Not going to happen,” Mr. Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Thursday. “There’s been enough. It’s time to stop now.”

Reports said Wednesday that he promised Arab and Muslim leaders during a meeting Tuesday at the United Nations during the annual General Assembly that he won’t allow the Jewish state to make that move.

Saudi Arabia has moved to increase pressure on Israel, saying any plan to annex the West Bank would end talks to normalize relations between the two nations. The United Arab Emirates, an Arab ally of Israel, has shared similar sentiments, saying it could jeopardize the Abraham Accords, Mr. Trump’s prized foreign policy accomplishment from his first term.

Mr. Trump reaffirmed Thursday that he’s still trying to get the hostages out of Gaza and end the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

He said he spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier in the day, and said the leaders are “getting pretty close to having a deal on Gaza and maybe even peace.”

Mr. Netanyahu is said to be heading to the White House on Monday, his fourth meeting with Mr. Trump.

They will discuss a plan for Gaza, Axios reported.
