President Donald Trump announced Friday that he is firing Kim Sajet, the longtime director of the National Portrait Gallery.
Trump made the announcement in a post to Truth Social, describing Sajet as a “highly partisan person,” and a “strong supporter of DEI.” The president also claimed that he made the decision to oust Sajet from her role “upon the request and recommendation of many people.”
“Upon the request and recommendation of many people, I am herby terminating the employment of Kim Sajet as Director of the National Portrait Gallery,” Trump wrote in the social media post. “She is a highly partisan person, and a strong supporter of DEI, which is totally inappropriate for her position. Her replacement will be named shortly. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Sajet, who has served as the director of the National Portrait Gallery since April 2013, has previously made multiple donations to Democratic causes, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) data. Under Sajet’s leadership, the National Gallery has promoted various events and performances on subjects such as immigration, racial identity, racial justice and black women’s labor.
Sajet describes her role as the National Portrait Gallery’s director as “exploring new ways to place personal experience & creativity at the center of learning & civic awareness,” according to her LinkedIn profile.
The National Portrait Gallery did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
