Trump slams report that says he will name ballroom after himself

President Trump said any reports that he intends to call the new ballroom after himself are “fake news.”

“I don’t have any plan to call it after myself,” Mr. Trump told reporters as he was departing on a trip to Asia. “That was fake news. Probably going to call it the presidential ballroom or something like that. We haven’t really thought about a name yet.”

ABC News reported that senior administration officials were referring to the new 90,000-square-foot ballroom as “The President Donald J. Trump Ballroom” and that it would likely stick.

But when asked about a potential name for the ballroom, the president told reporters earlier this week that, “I won’t get into that now.”

The ballroom’s price tag has increased from its original $200 million to $300 million, but Mr. Trump said $350 million has been raised from his wealthy friends, who have contributed to his dream.

The president has said the extra funds will be used for other projects, like the triumphal arch that has been proposed as part of the celebration for America’s 250th birthday.

The entire East Wing has been demolished as part of the preparations for the ballroom’s construction, which has been met with mixed reactions.
