Trump strikes conciliatory bipartisan tone at Congressional Ball

President Trump delivered conciliatory remarks at this year’s Congressional Ball, welcoming Republicans and Democrats and called for everyone to set “all political differences” aside for the evening.

“I want to thank all of the great people in the room, both Democrat and Republican who worked so hard on the behalf of our great nation,” Mr. Trump said.

“So tonight, we’re going to set aside all political differences. We’re not going to criticize each other, we’re going to love each other. We’re going to come together, not as Democrats and Republicans, but as fellow Americans, to give thanks for this nation, which is so great indeed.”

He added, “I think it’s a tremendous tribute that so many Democrats have joined us tonight, high level.”

The president, who thanked leaders of his party and members of his Cabinet, talked about his administration’s accomplishments since returning to office in January.

“We’ve solved eight wars. that’s never happened, and more Americans are working today than ever before in the history of our country. We’ve never had anything like it. We have more Americans working today than at any time, by far in the history of our country,” he said.

“Many of you in Congress worked very hard – both sides this year to keep the promises that you were elected on, to deliver big wins for the American people and Democrats worked very hard too.”

The president noted, though, that Democrats could “get rid of a couple of“ their “little policies” including men in women’s sports, open borders and transgender ideology.

“But other than that, I like what you’re doing. You pass the largest tax cuts in American history. We all did that. We passed the largest spending cuts in American history, and we have the largest regulation cuts by far in American history,” he said.

“We love the Republicans and we love the Democrats and we love everybody else,” Mr. Trump said as he closed his remarks, jokingly adding that, come tomorrow, he will have to “deny” he ever said that.
