Trump Strong-Armed Paramount Into Reviving ‘Rush Hour’ — And It Worked: REPORT

Donald Trump reportedly pushed Paramount to take on distribution of an upcoming “Rush Hour” sequel, and sources close to the negotiations said the deal is all but finalized.

Sources close to the deal confirmed news of the upcoming release to Deadline, noting the studio set to distributed on Warner Bros.’ behalf in return for a double-digit-percent distribution fee.

The revival comes after President Trump reportedly pressed for the revival of the film series in another example of how his influence continues to resonate beyond politics and into the entertainment industry. Amid increasing cultural and political pressures on major studios, the greenlight of “Rush Hour 4” seemingly highlights how closely Hollywood and national politics are intersecting.

News of the deal came quickly after a source familiar told Semafor that Trump personally nudged Paramount owner Larry Ellison to pursue the new sequel featuring the franchise’s original stars.

Brett Ratner, who directed the first three “Rush Hour” films and recently completed a documentary on First Lady Melania Trump, is expected to return, according to Deadline.

The original “Rush Hour” was a global smash, earning over $245 million worldwide and launching one of the most successful action franchises of its era. After multiple studios apparently passed on a new film, Paramount’s involvement signals a renewed commitment to delivering a fan-favorite project that fans — and reportedly the president — have wanted to see back on screen.
