Trump vows DOGE cuts will be codified after passage of ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’

President Donald J. Trump said that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) spending cuts will soon be codified, making sure that Elon Musk and his team’s work to help reform government hasn’t been for naught.

During a Friday White House press conference marking the end of Musk’s 130 days as a “Special Government Employee,” the president said that the DOGE cuts will be made permanent by Congress after the work is done to pass his signature “Big, Beautiful Bill” which is currently awaiting input from the GOP-controlled Senate.

“We are totally committed to making the DOGE cuts permanent and stopping much more of the waste in the months to come,” he said. “We want to get our great ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ finished and done. After that, we’re going to be — we put some of this into the bill, but most of it is going to come later. We’re going to have it [codified] by Congress.”

The president said that the cuts will save “hundreds of billions of dollars” in spending, praising Musk for his work with DOGE during which he sacrificed time running his companies while being savagely attacked by Democrats who instigated leftists to engage in protests at Tesla facilities, with some carrying out domestic terrorist attacks on dealerships and EV charging stations which were firebombed.

“He’s one of the greatest business leaders and innovators the world has ever produced,” Trump said, as Musk stood at his side. “He stepped forward to put his very great talents into the service of our nation, and we appreciate it.”

The media tried all week to promote a narrative of a rift between Trump and Musk after the outgoing DOGE chief was critical of the “Big, Beautiful Bill” in remarks during a CBS News interview.

“I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not just decreases it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing,” he said.

“I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful, but I don’t know if it can be both. My personal opinion,” Musk added.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson is ready to get about with the passage of the DOGE cuts.

“The House is eager and ready to act on DOGE’s findings so we can deliver even more cuts to big government that President Trump wants and the American people demand,” the Louisiana Republican said in a post to X this week.

“We will do that in two ways: 1. When the White House sends its rescissions package to the House, we will act quickly by passing legislation to codify the cuts. 2. The House will use the appropriations process to swiftly implement President Trump’s 2026 budget,” Johnson explained.

“Many of the DOGE people” will be staying on, Trump told reporters, “And Elon’s really not leaving. He’s going to be back and forth, I think, I have a feeling. It’s his baby, and I think he’s going to be doing a lot of things.”

“He had to go through the slings and the arrows, which is a shame,” the president said of Musk.

“This is not the end of DOGE, but really the beginning,” Musk pledged. “My time as a special government employee necessarily had to end. It was a limited-time thing … but the DOGE team will only grow stronger over time. The DOGE influence will only grow stronger.”
