Trump’s Alaska pipeline could be his ‘defining achievement,’ gives US ‘powerful new lever’

A look at the president’s energy plans for one red state had a previous Energy Secretary anticipating the “defining achievement” would be a “major legacy” for Trump’s administration.

Among President Donald Trump’s top America First priorities in returning to the White House was keeping his promise to unleash America’s energy and restore the net exporter status he’d achieved prior to President Joe Biden’s zeal for the green agenda. Monday, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) penned an op-ed for Fox News lauding the potential of Trump’s policies with regard to the proposed Alaska Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) pipeline.

“This is not just a theoretical pipe dream. Alaska LNG has already overcome the bureaucratic and legal red tape that is typically the most time-consuming part of the process, securing its permits and defeating every legal challenge,” he wrote of the project that was expected to deliver as much as 3.5 billion cubic feet of gas over 800 miles of pipeline per day to the southern coast of Alaska before the end of the president’s second term.

“If his administration can follow through on that vision and continue to move at the speed that has so far defined his second term, the Alaska LNG pipeline will be one of the defining achievements of his presidency,” wrote Perry, who served as Trump’s energy secretary until December 2019.

Trump issued an executive order on his first day back in office, dubbed “Unleashing Alaska’s Extraordinary Resource Potential,” that included prioritization of the state’s LNG potential, “including the sale and transportation of Alaskan LNG to other regions of the United States and allied nations within the Pacific region.”

During his joint address to Congress, the president said, “My administration is also working on a gigantic natural gas pipeline in Alaska — among the largest in the world — where Japan, South Korea, and other nations want to be our partner with investments of trillions of dollars each. There’s never been anything like that one. It will be truly spectacular. It’s all set to go. The permitting is gotten.”

“American LNG strengthens our allies around the world and grows the U.S. economy. American energy dominance protects global stability,” argued current Energy Secretary Chris Wright on X.

To that end, Perry noted that the increase in exports would “give the United States a powerful new lever in global energy markets, particularly in the Asia-Pacific Region,” in particular, “By supplying reliable American energy to China’s neighbors, we reduce their dependence on the CCP and strengthen the geopolitical balance in our favor.”

“Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy (R) recently held talks in Taiwan, Thailand, South Korea, and Japan and has already begun to secure commitments from these potential customers,” added Perry.

In late March, the governor demonstrated as such when he detailed some of the progress on that front, which included a letter of intent from Taiwan to purchase 6,000,000 tons of LNG from Alaska annually, and possibly invest in the project.

“At home,” added Perry, “President Trump will not only lower energy prices but also secure his vision of energy independence. America will never be begging OPEC for oil or watching our gas prices skyrocket because of international disruptions again.”
