Trump’s Inner Circle Reportedly Spoke To Eric Adams About Admin Role If He Ends Reelection Bid

President Donald Trump’s advisors have reportedly floated offering New York City Mayor Eric Adams a post in the administration if he exits the mayoral race, according to people familiar with the discussions.

The effort aims to consolidate moderate voters behind Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo as he challenges democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani, who leads in polling ahead of November’s election, according to The New York Times. Intermediaries for Trump have reportedly reached out to Adams’ allies, with one source saying the talks are moving “in several different directions.” (RELATED: DOJ Tells New York Federal Prosecutors To Drop Charges Against Eric Adams)

Adams, an independent Democrat polling in the single digits, took an unannounced trip to Florida on Monday. He later told PIX11 he met with Miami’s mayor and other political figures but declined to name them, the Times reported.

Pressed on whether he would stay in the race, Adams hedged.

“Listen, I’m a retired captain in the Police Department, former state senator, former borough president. I’ve never had a problem finding jobs as I transition. And that’s not what I’m looking for right now. I’m looking to continue to serve the people of the city of New York,” he told PIX11.

The Times also reported that the Trump administration played a role in Adams’ federal corruption case, with the Justice Department dropping charges in February after Adams allegedly agreed to support the president’s immigration agenda.

Billionaire John Catsimatidis confirmed Sunday that he had spoken with Trump about the race, telling the Times the president was “very concerned” about Mamdani’s lead.

“How do they say it, this is for all the tea in China. This is serious,” Catsimatidis said.

Adams spokeswoman Kayla Mamelak Altus denied the mayor had discussed a role with Trump, saying he “intends to continue that work for another four years as mayor.”
