Tucker Carlson Tells Megyn Kelly What Kind Of Democrat ‘Could Easily Get Elected’ in 2028

Daily Caller News Foundation co-founder Tucker Carlson told SiriusXM’s Megyn Kelly Tuesday that a Democrat who mirrors President Donald Trump’s economic policies would “easily” be the party’s hope for 2028.

Democrats have struggled to gain momentum since Trump’s win in November 2024, appearing unable to unite behind a leading candidate. On “The Megyn Kelly Show,” the two discussed California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s potential to lead the Democrats in 2028.

Carlson said he believes Newsom is “legit smart,” adding he’s known the Democrat governor for a while. Carlson, though, said he doubted Newsom’s 2028 chances after Kelly asked whether he could be the “Dems’ great white hope from California for 2028.” (RELATED: Democratic Senator Questions What His Party Is ‘Presenting’ To Americans After Getting Trounced In 2024)

“He’s pretty white. I mean, it’s the anti-white party,” Carlson said. “They hate white people. They’ve been systematically disenfranchising white people from the country they were born in. They say that out loud. That’s what diversity is. It’s everybody but white men. So I’m not whining about it.”

“I’m just noticing that [it’s] much more comprehensive than Jim Crow ever was. So for the party that did that, that set up this Jim Crow system, anti-white system to nominate another white guy. I mean, maybe? But I think they’d be much happier with AOC. I don’t take her that seriously. I’m not really sure what I think,” Carlson added.

Speculation has circulated that both Newsom and Democrat New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have already begun to eye their party’s presidential nomination.

According to a CNN/SSRS poll released on March 16, the party only hit a 29% favorability rating among respondents.

“I think what is likely to happen — someone’s going to come out of nowhere who’s got native talent. I continue to believe [that] even in the Democratic Party, you have to have talent to succeed. I felt that Bernie Sanders had a lot of talent,” Carlson said. “I don’t agree with him, of course, but I did think he had a lot of talent. Then it turned out he was a fraud also. But [for] someone like Bernie Sanders, I think populist economics is very popular.”

“Actually, conservatives don’t want to admit it, but it is popular. So someone who comes out and attacks the credit card companies, attacks the endless war, basically does kind of [like] Trump on the left. That person could easily get elected,” Carlson said.

Kelly asked Carlson for his thoughts regarding Ocasio-Cortez’s potential shot at securing her party’s nomination. Despite Carlson saying he believes “she’s got a ton of talent,” he questioned whether Ocasio-Cortez has the “enormous self-discipline to get through a presidential campaign.”

“I also think the Israel thing is tough, is tough for anybody running in that party,” Carlson said. “A lot of rank-and file-Democrats are genuinely mad about the Gaza thing. Donors obviously are on a different page. So it’s a fundamental split in that party. I’m not exactly sure how that’s resolved, and I’m not sure that she can walk that line.”

According to a CNN/SSRS poll from March, over 30% of respondents were unable to name a Democrat leader they felt “best reflects the core values” of the party.

Of those who were willing to write in a name, 10% chose Ocasio-Cortez, 9% selected former Vice President Kamala Harris, 8% said Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, and 6% selected House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Additionally, 4% each named former President Barack Obama and Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett, with 2% writing in Schumer along with a handful of other names.
