Turley gives away media’s ulterior motive for not reporting ‘greatest political hit job in history’

Daily Caller News Foundation

George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley said Thursday on Fox News’ “Hannity” that the legacy media refuses to cover new Russiagate revelations because doing so would require them to admit they played a role in the cover-up.

Since the allegations emerged involving officials from the Obama administration and Hillary Clinton’s campaign, corporate media has largely shifted its focus to other issues. While discussing the legal side of the scandal, Fox News’ Sean Hannity asked Turley who should “be worried” about potential legal repercussions.

“Well, there’s a lot of people worried in this city tonight. This is the great reveal that [CIA Director] John Radcliffe was promising, and there’s more to come. With the important thing about this, Sean, is that it confirms things that we knew, and it gives us things that we did not know,” Turley said. “We always knew — not always — but we knew earlier in July 2016 [that] Brennan briefed Obama to say that Hillary Clinton was planning to create a Russian collusion scandal for Trump to distract from her email scandal.”

“He briefed the president on that, and then months later he played a critical role in overruling CIA analysts and including the Steele dossier. We also know that the Clinton campaign lied to the media, denied they had funded the Steele dossier and indeed hid that funding as legal expenses by Mark Elias, the general counsel at that time of the Clinton campaign,” Turley added.

On July 18, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard released the first wave of information revealing more about now discredited allegations against Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. According to those allegations, Trump colluded with Russia to sway the election in his favor.

With the declassification of documents from Obama-era officials, Gabbard said in a memo that the DNI and Department of Homeland Security allegedly withheld an FBI and NSA press release issued weeks before the 2016 election saying they had “low confidence” in Russia’s role in the data leaks.

The memo also alleged that deep state intelligence officials began leaking “blatantly false intelligence to The Washington Post” following the 2016 election.

At the time of the hoax, corporate media heavily pushed the Russiagate narrative and allegations against Trump, with an emphasis in coverage of the infamous Steele dossier. Turley said the effort to push the hoax was aided by an “all on deck effort” from three major players, including the legacy media.

“All of this required this all-on-deck effort [from] the government, the campaign [and] the media,” Turley said. “That’s why when you see the reaction the media [has] today, it’s clear that no matter what is produced — you can show a dozen heads in a duffel bag, and they’re still not impressed.”

“And the reason is that for most of the media, this is not coverage, it would be a confession,” Turley said. “That is if they actually cover this story, they are confessing their own role in what may be the greatest political hit job in history.”

According to a Daily Caller News Foundation review, CNN and MSNBC covered alleged ties between Trump and deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein over four times more than the new Russiagate intel.

In the week following Gabbard’s reveal, the networks mentioned “Russia,” “Gabbard” and “Obama” a combined 1,848 times — compared to 8,101 mentions of Epstein after The Wall Street Journal reported on July 17 that Trump had written Epstein a suggestive birthday letter in 2003.
