Two people were killed and four others injured early Monday morning after a gunman opened fire outside the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, Nevada, authorities confirmed, as reported by The New York Post.

The shooting occurred around 7:25 a.m. near the valet area of the casino, according to the Reno Gazette Journal. Police responded quickly to the scene and confronted the suspect, who was shot and taken into custody.

The gunman is among those wounded and was transported to a local hospital. Several of the injured individuals remain in critical condition.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims or the shooter. Investigators have also not provided details on a possible motive or how the incident began.

Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve told the Reno Gazette Journal that police “responded very quickly” to the scene. “It could have been much, much worse,” she said. “We don’t know yet quite how it started or who was involved.”

Following the incident, the Reno Police Department issued a warning to residents urging them to stay away from the area as emergency responders secured the scene. Multiple ambulances and law enforcement vehicles were seen outside the casino entrance.

Reno City Council member Devon Reese issued a statement on social media in response to the shooting. “My heart breaks for the victims, their families, and our entire community. Reno is strong — but we are not immune to the epidemic of gun violence gripping this nation,” Reese wrote.

Officials have not indicated whether the shooting was targeted or random, and law enforcement is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Grand Sierra Resort is one of Reno’s largest hotel and casino properties, frequently hosting events and drawing large crowds. The shooting has prompted increased security measures in the area and heightened police presence as the investigation continues.
