UCF, Houston, UNLV, Others Get Creative With ‘No State Income Tax’ Strategy For Transfer Portal

As an enthusiast of “get rid of tax” policies, I’m absolutely loving this!

The transfer portal of college football has delivered some unexpected developments here in 2026. Now it’s venturing into the realm of … tax advantages?

In a recent quirky trend, programs from select states have started sharing social media posts emphasizing the benefit of having no state income tax to attract portal prospects. Right now, nine states do not impose a state income tax: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming. The UCF Knights, Houston Cougars and UNLV Rebels — each representing one of those no-tax states — put up posts on social media Saturday. The graphics showed their mascot or a cheerleader holding up an enormous bag of money overhead.

UCF launched the idea early Saturday with a post spotlighting their mascot, Knightro. Houston and UNLV quickly jumped on board with similar content, and the wave continued with the UTEP Miners, FIU Panthers and North Texas Mean Green joining in.

Being from Florida and a Miami Hurricanes booster, this is a brilliant idea that I hope the University of Miami implements if we don’t already. And I’m not necessarily talking about the social media aspect, but as a part of our recruiting tactics, we don’t need to go all-out like these other schools for obvious reasons.

And while we’re on the subject of taxes (this is a side note), can we get rid of the federal income and gambling taxes, President Trump?
