UFC legend Randy Couture was reportedly airlifted to a burn center Tuesday after sustaining serious injuries in a crash during practice runs at a Kansas City racetrack.
The mixed martial arts icon, who was set to debut this year in the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA), suffered first and second-degree burns, smoke inhalation and other trauma injuries when his car crashed and caught fire, TMZ reported. Sources close to the fighter told MMA Fighting his injuries were confirmed and that he is expected to recover, though no additional medical details were disclosed.

It is unclear what caused the crash or whether anyone else was injured.
Couture, a UFC Hall of Famer, had been working toward his long-anticipated entry into competitive racing for months, completing the licensing process to compete in the NHRA this year. His future in the sport is now uncertain in the wake of the wreck.
