Urologist Dr. David Samadi told SiriusXM’s Megyn Kelly on Monday that alleged early prostate treatments could have impaired former President Joe Biden’s mental fitness.
Biden’s personal office announced Sunday that the former president had been diagnosed Friday with “a more aggressive form” of prostate cancer that had already metastasized to the bone. While questioning Biden’s medical history, Kelly brought up an article by Dr. Stephen Quay published in The Spectator World, asking Samadi if it was “possible” that Biden had allegedly received treatments prior to the announcement and whether that could have affected his mental fitness.
“He [Quay] said, ‘Was President Biden’s cognitive decline a side effect of prostate cancer treatment? A recent study showed that four objective measures and one subjective measure of cognitive function were all significantly impaired by the androgen deprivation therapy, ADT, used for metastatic prostate cancer treatment,’ citing a clinical trial report. Is that the case? Is there a treatment for prostate cancer that can cause what looks like cognitive decline?” Kelly asked.
“Yes, what he’s talking about is something called ADT or medications such as Eligard or Lupron. Which I was just talking about the hormonal treatment,” Samadi said. “And not only they would lower the testosterone, they can cause hot flashes and menopausal symptoms. But they can also have cardiac issues, and one of those side effects is mental health issues. Meaning it’s a little cloudy. They’re not concentrating, and it can affect it.”
Concerns over Biden’s mental fitness began before he entered office in January 2021, including criticisms of his speech and physical stumbles. While some Democrats initially brushed aside the allegations, other members of the party began to turn on Biden after his disastrous debate against then-former President Donald Trump in June 2024. Samadi went on to say that Biden suffered from two brain aneurysms in 1988 and added that both his age and the stress of politics could also “cause mental health issues.”
“Now, don’t forget that President Biden also has had in the past two episodes of aneurysm in his brain. Has had multiple surgeries on that,” Samadi said. “So some of those could also affect his mental issues. If you look at my Twitter about a couple of years ago, I talked about that as a doctor. I was concerned about his mental health issues. But, of course, as a doctor you don’t want to get into politics because media can always come back and attack you for being honest and telling the truth.”
“But given also his age, that is 82 years old, under a lot of stress, has been in politics for many years. The brain aneurysm, two episodes, and sometimes even prostate cancer can, of course, it always metastasizes to bone. But it can also metastasize to the brain,” Samadi added. “It’s not as likely, but all of those are scenarios and the side effects of hormonal treatment that can cause mental health issues.”
Speculation over the timeline and aggressiveness of Biden’s prostate cancer has raised questions about whether the former president was suffering from it while in office.
Former Obama administration official Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel said Monday on MSNBC that Biden likely didn’t develop the diagnosis in “the last 100, 200 days,” and “probably had it at the start of his presidency in 2021.” Other doctors and cancer experts also told the Daily Caller on Monday that they believe Biden likely had the cancer during his term as president.
