USA Fencing On Verge Of Changing Policies On Transgender Athletes After Getting Whirlwind Backlash

It was announced Thursday by USA Fencing that they’re on the verge of changing their policies when it comes to transgender athletes, which follows nationwide outrage after a woman fencer Stephanie Turner protested being forced to take on a man. The news also comes amid a federal probe into USA Fencing.

“In the event that USA Fencing is forced to change its current stance in accordance with oversight bodies or federal legislation, the new policy states athletes competing in USA Fencing-sanctioned tournaments must compete according to their biological sex,” read the announcement.

The fresh policy that’s been proposed guarantees that the women’s division “will be open exclusively to athletes of the female sex.” On the men’s side, their division “will be open to all other athletes who are otherwise eligible for competition.”

Even though they’re going to end up changing their policies because they’re “forced” to do so, I’ll take a win however I can get it, so it doesn’t even matter to me.
