Vice President JD Vance said Thursday on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” that the administration will investigate whether universities use federal funds to “incite violence against conservatives,” including Georgetown University.
Georgetown removed flyers from its campus Thursday that read, “Hey fascist! Catch!,” which appeared to reference one of the bullet casing engravings found in the investigation of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Discussing the “disturbing” flyers, Fox’s Laura Ingraham asked Vance if the federal government should address potential incitements of violence against conservatives on college campuses. “Well, first of all, as a basic policy issue, if you are using federal dollars to incite violence against conservatives you’re not gonna get those federal dollars anymore, and we’re looking at that right now. So Georgetown needs to make sure that it’s actually making it safe for everybody, whether they’re liberal or conservative, to express their views,” Vance said. “If you’re promoting and encouraging violence I think you’re by definition violating the contract you have with your students. You’re violating the contract that you have with the American public.”

“Let’s step back and just appreciate this. OK, to engage in an act of political violence, of course there’s the person at the top of the pyramid who’s pulling the trigger, that’s the person that we’re prosecuting, that’s the person that we’re going after that has to see justice, but there’s also all the people who apologize for that violence. There’s the people who celebrate for that violence. There are the people who fund the networks that actually encourage and promote that violence. We really have to dismantle the entire network of left-wing violence in this country.”
Photos of the flyers circulated online, showing the message: “The only political group that celebrates when Nazis die.” The flyer also featured a QR code linking to a page that read, “We’re building a community that’s done with ceremonial resistance and strongly worded letters. If you want to make a real change in your community, let us know below,” according to Fox News.
In a statement to ABC7, the university said an investigation is underway and said it has “no tolerance for calls for violence or threats.”
“Georgetown University has no tolerance for calls for violence or threats to the university. The flyers have been removed, and the university is investigating this incident and working to ensure the safety of our community,” the school wrote to ABC 7.
According to Fox News, the flyers were posted by a leftist gun group with ties to political violence known as the John Brown Gun Club. The outlet reported that the club has been linked to recent anti-ICE violence, with members also attending left-wing political events armed, claiming they are protecting protesters from right-wing counterprotesters.
Following the assassination of Kirk on Sept. 10, officials said bullet casings from the rifle used to kill Kirk contained a series of phrases such as “Hey fascist! Catch!” and “If you read this you are gay LMAO.” A third bullet casing also had the engraving of “bella ciao,” which matches an Italian song name that became a left-wing anthem during World War II.
