Vehicle Crashes Into White House Barricades

A vehicle crashed into White House barriers late Tuesday evening, just south of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

The Secret Service confirmed the incident in a post on X, stating it occurred at 10:37 p.m. local time when a vehicle drove into the Secret Service gate at 17th and E St., NW, in Washington, D.C. The driver was arrested, and the vehicle was subsequently “assessed and deemed safe” after checks by Secret Service and officials from Washington’s Metropolitan Police Department.

“Our investigation into the cause of this collision is ongoing,” the post states.

The Secret Service told the Daily Caller News Foundation that no additional information has been released on the investigation, with updates expected Wednesday morning.

President Donald Trump was confirmed to have been inside the White House at the time of the incident, according to The New York Times (NYT). (RELATED: Karoline Leavitt Announces White House Will Begin Construction Of New State Ballroom)

During the time of the incident, the area had been reportedly placed on lockdown. However, according to the NYT, the White House was not placed on a lockdown. The area leading to the gate where the incident occurred is reported to remain closed until the vehicle is towed away, the outlet reported.

The identity of the suspect and motive have not been released as the investigation is ongoing. Trump has also not publicly commented on the incident as of Tuesday evening.

The White House did not immediately respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.
