Democratic strategist James Carville tore into Vice President JD Vance on Wednesday over his vacation abroad, urging Democrats to hammer him relentlessly.
Vance went on a family holiday to Scotland and stayed at a luxury estate near Kilmarnock. On his “Politics War Room” podcast, Carville mocked Vance for traveling to Oxfordshire, instead of vacationing in his own country.
“He’s entitled to a vacation. I’ll give him that. Guess where he went? To a place called Oxfordshire in England, which is a toney, wealthy place that rich Londoners go to,” Carville said. “It’s called the Martha’s Vineyard of England. And why we didn’t blow this up?”
Carville asked why Democrats and tourism boards in states like Florida, Nevada, and Wyoming hadn’t capitalized on Vance’s choice to spend his money abroad.

“OK, why didn’t the Tourist Association of the Florida panhandle blow this up? Las Vegas people? The California people? The Wyoming people? You mean you can’t vacation with your wife and kids in his own country? I’m getting ready to go to Lake George, [it] could be the most beautiful place on Earth,” Carville said. “People in upstate New York would have been glad to have his money. But what does he do? He goes to a toney English village.”
The longtime Democratic operative said Vance even faced rejection during his stay.
“They wouldn’t even let him in the best pub because employees in the pub said they wouldn’t serve him…Use JD Vance and just kick the s**t out of him every chance you get,” Carville said. Despite Carville’s claims, Vance raised $4 million for the Republican National Committee during his U.K. trip — the latest fundraising sojourn since he became RNC finance chair in March, following events in Big Sky, Montana as well as Houston, Dallas, Manhattan, Atlanta, Nashville, San Diego, Nantucket, and Jackson Hole, according to the New York Post. He also reached an agreement with British officials to drop the U.K.’s proposed access to personal cloud data.
The vice president has been carrying out his official duties. Earlier Wednesday, he joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller to tour Washington, D.C.’s Union Station and review President Donald Trump’s crime crackdown. The initiative has already resulted in more than 550 arrests in the nation’s capital.
