Following furious speculation that Reeves will break Labour’s manifesto promises not to raise Income Tax, National Insurance and VAT, Reeves’ spokesman has now insisted she do not regret making those pledges:
“No. And again, I think she’s been asked this question previously. Those manifesto commitments were made recognising that working people had been asked to pay price of last 14 years of Conservative failure.”
No10 said that Reeves’ speech this morning was about “setting the context for the budget and making it clear about challenges and problems we face”. Labour HQ deciding whether to use a shredder or an incinerator for their remaining manifesto pledges…
