Shadow Housing Secretary James Cleverly was talking about the housing crisis at Onward’s fringe event today – and admitted the Tories still don’t have the answers. Pressed on whether the problem is convincing the party to go more YIMBY, Cleverly conceded it was a “fair observation” and added that being a NIMBY isn’t “illogical or unreasonable.” He said:
“If we want to move people from being NIMBYs to YIMBYs, you have to show them that it is in their benefit. We need to have a real think about how we balance the offer and the ask. I’m not going to pretend that we have all the answers just yet. But we need to ask what will it take.”
Looks like that one got missed off the Tory policy renewal programme…
