Well, this story just got a lot more interesting.
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf has landed himself in some wackiness after he hit a Detroit Lions fan during his team’s victory Sunday. Turns out, this isn’t the first time where Metcalf has had problems with that particular fan. It’s tough to feel envy for NFL players who frequently face intense heckling from fans determined to rattle them mentally. That said, such challenges are simply part of the job for professional athletes, who are generally expected to handle this type of provocation with composure.
A player entering his seventh year in the NFL ought to be skilled at tuning out distractions, yet Metcalf showed no leniency toward the Lions supporter who wound up getting struck by the wide receiver in the second quarter of the game.

The details surrounding what triggered the confrontation remain a matter of conflicting accounts, but the fan involved seemingly has a prior connection with Metcalf dating back to his days with the Seahawks.
Before joining the Steelers ahead of the current season via a trade, Metcalf played his initial six NFL years in Seattle. In last season’s game, when the Seahawks fell 42-29 to the Lions in Detroit, he recorded seven catches for 104 yards.
As reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Metcalf first encountered the fan — identified as Ryan Kennedy — during that game, where he reportedly alerted Seattle’s security personnel about the individual at Ford Field.
Steelers WR DK Metcalf had a history with the Lions fan he confronted Sunday — Metcalf reported the same fan to Seahawks security last season while playing for Seattle, sources say.

The exact reason behind the report remains unknown, but Pelissero supported Chad Johnson’s assertion that the fan went too far in taunting Metcalf, referencing a source who indicated the individual used “something we both know you don’t call a black man,” per BroBible. While Kennedy, on the other hand, maintains he had only addressed the receiver by his “government” name.
DK Metcalf has been suspended for two games by the NFL over the latest incident with the Lions fan.
