Burnham, who makes a hobby of attacking Starmer and Reeves’ policy choices, said this wasn’t about attacking the government:
“If I look back, if the government that I was in had listened to the PLP it would have been a better government, because it would have made better decisions. And I think this is a case in point here. It’s not about doing something just to get on at the government. Not at all. We all want the government to succeed. But the government needs, I think, to take a more unifying path. And on this issue, it should pause, it should get back around the table.”
