‘We’ve Got To Set Things Right Down There’: Steve Bannon Warns Corporations Hijacking Texas GOP Strongholds

Former Trump White House advisor Steve Bannon warned on his podcast Thursday about what he called a corporate-driven takeover of Texas Republican power centers.

Republican Texas State Rep. Brian Harrison confronted Republican Texas State Rep. and House Speaker Dustin Burrows for blocking all State House bills to eliminate property taxes while advancing Democrat bills—only to be mocked on a hot mic. During an episode of “The War Room,” Bannon laid out what he described as a high-stakes battle to control Texas politics.

“This situation down there where Soros put in three, $400 million to turn Texas blue. It got slightly purple, and then MAGA took over. The grassroots down in Texas put the state on its shoulders. Trump won by 14 points. Ted Cruz won by nine. I think a couple of those times, Ted Cruz had those tight races and won by nine points. Think about this for a second,” Bannon said.

Bannon tied the internal GOP conflicts to the impeachment battle of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

“Texas is the railhead of the MAGA movement. This thing in the House, and we got involved in it a couple of years ago with the Paxton impeachment. That would be the same Paxton that’s up on these polls on Cornyn,” Bannon said. “I don’t know, 15, 16, 20 points more than some polls over a guy who has been in the U.S. Senate and a power broker in the Senate for decades. That speaker right there, he’s a Republican. They’ve turned over the House to Democrats.”

Bannon didn’t stop at Republican leadership as he zeroed in on the influence of major corporations in the state, accusing them of working behind the scenes to dilute conservative victories. (RELATED: Failed VP Candidate Admits He Is ‘Very Pessimistic’ About Dems Winning Back Senate)

“We’ve got to set things right down there. So we’re working with people, and we will have more about that. But for folks in Texas, good Lord, all the hard work you’ve done to save that state, and this is what you get,” Bannon said. “Part of this is you just got to understand it. This big corporate money starts coming into these states. Even they don’t care. They’re anti-democratic. They don’t care what the people have to say. They don’t care how many elections you win.”

Paxton leads Republican Sen. John Cornyn by 16 points in a new GOP primary poll, with 56% support to Cornyn’s 40%. In a potential three-way race including Republican Texas Rep. Wesley Hunt, Paxton still holds a commanding lead with 44% support.

The Cornyn campaign accused Paxton of awarding over $7 million in taxpayer-funded grants to left-wing activist groups that support illegal immigration, DEI initiatives and gender ideology. Paxton dismissed the claims as “a new low” and defended his record as attorney general.
