‘When They Start Naming Names’: Brit Hume Breaks Down Biggest Problem With Epstein Story

Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume said on Fox News Wednesday that the Jeffrey Epstein case won’t truly reignite until accusers start naming new political figures who were allegedly involved in his illegal activities.

The House Oversight Committee released over 33,000 pages of Epstein-related documents Tuesday after obtaining them from the Department of Justice. In an appearance on “Special Report with Bret Baier,” Hume discussed the Epstein scandal and why he said the case remains stalled.

“When they start naming names and the names aren’t the names we have already heard. And when they tell us something about politicians doing something other than simply associating with this guy, Jeffrey Epstein, then I think the story will get some renewed life,” Hume told host Bret Baier. “But I think it’s living now on people’s suppositions and conspiracy theories. And the evidence of anybody beside Epstein doing anything terribly wrong here is pretty thin at the moment.”

Hume said that while the women’s accounts of abuse are credible and disturbing, the story still lacks the kind of substantiated detail it needs to push it into a new phase.

“I used to say that that story had traveled farther on less evidence than any scandal I had ever seen. This thing is beginning to give it a run for its money. Look, these women tell these terrible stories about awful things that happened. I don’t doubt they did. They were terrible,” Hume said.

Epstein died by suicide in his Manhattan jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. In a leaked memo, the Department of Justice (DOJ) denied the existence of a “client list,” which contradicted years of public speculation. Days earlier, Attorney General Pam Bondi said she was reviewing a possible Epstein client list.

House Oversight Chairman James Comer subpoenaed records related to Epstein on Aug. 5, prompting the DOJ to begin turning over documents while pledging to protect victim identities and redact child sexual abuse material. The transfer followed the DOJ’s release of its July interview with Ghislaine Maxwell, which Bondi had ordered Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche to conduct.
