White House Torches Tim Walz for Outrageous ‘Gulag’ Deportation Comparison [WATCH]

The White House responded sharply Thursday to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s remarks attacking President Donald Trump during his state of the state address, calling out the governor for overseeing riots in his own state while accusing the administration of chaos, as reported by Fox News.

Walz, who previously ran on a ticket with Vice President Kamala Harris, used his Wednesday night address to criticize Trump’s immigration enforcement policies and broader federal reforms.

He accused the administration of detaining university students without due process and deporting illegal immigrants to what he called “Salvadoran gulags.”

White House Deputy Press Secretary Harrison Fields dismissed the speech in a statement to Fox News Digital.

“It’s rich of Tim ‘Jazz Hands’ Walz to decry chaos when he let his largest city burn to the ground while his wife opened their mansion’s windows to savor the fumes. Walz also willingly served alongside Vice President Harris, who presided over one of the most chaotic administrations in American history.”

During his speech, Walz said:

“The president has also chosen, and I stress this, chosen, to tear up the values that once made America the shining light of the world… We have university students being swept up, shoved into unmarked vans, and fathers being tossed into Salvadorian gulags without a hint of due process.”

Walz appeared to reference the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an illegal immigrant and alleged MS-13 gang member who was deported to El Salvador and initially held in the CECOT megaprison.

Federal officials later confirmed Garcia had been transferred to a lower-security facility and remains in “good conditions and in an excellent state of health.”

Abrego Garcia, once suspected of human smuggling and domestic violence, was designated by the Trump administration as having ties to a foreign terrorist organization.

Some Democratic lawmakers have visited him in El Salvador and pressed for his return to the U.S., citing court orders.

Walz also took aim at recent DHS enforcement actions involving foreign students allegedly connected to anti-Israel demonstrations.

While not naming them, House Democrats this week visited two individuals—Tufts University student Rümeysa Öztürk and former Columbia graduate student Mahmoud Khalil—being held in Louisiana detention centers.

In addition, Walz criticized the administration’s economic and healthcare policies.

He claimed President Trump “hired the richest man in the world” to dismantle federal services and accused the administration of causing economic instability through tariffs and budget cuts.

“When the president took office three months ago, there was no reason to throw a wrench in the works and destroy decades of work,” Walz said.

“He’s just plain confused about how the world really works for working people.”

The White House did not directly respond to the economic accusations but reiterated its position that immigration enforcement actions are being carried out in compliance with federal law and national security interests.
