She’s not a legend for nothing.
In February, legendary U.S. Olympic alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn, 41, was almost forced to have a leg amputation, but despite that, she has no interest whatsoever in retiring.
Recently, the American icon shot back at people criticizing her, taking to social media following fans saying that her crash at the Olympics should bring a conclusion to her storied career.
“Who said I was retiring?” replied Vonn to one individual who made the suggestion that it’s time for her to hang it up.
Another account said to her that she needs to call it a career after almost having an amputation, telling Vonn “the ego is so strong with this one.” But Vonn wasn’t having it. (RELATED: Team USA Paralympic Sled Hockey Wins Gold Medal After Sweep Over Canada)
“[I] think you’re mistaking my ego for joy,” wrote Vonn. “I’ve said it my whole life; I love skiing. I’ll put my feet up when I’m good and ready thank you.”
Making it even more clear, Vonn put up a longer statement, stating on Twitter that she’s not even close to entertaining the conversation of a retirement.
“No, I’m not ready to discuss my future in skiing,” wrote Vonn. “My focus has been on recovering from my injury and getting back to normal life. I was already retired for 6 years and have an amazing life outside of skiing. It was incredible to be #1 in the world again at 41 years old and set new records in my sport, but at my age, I’m the only one that will decide my future.”
“I don’t need anyone’s permission to do what makes me happy. Maybe that means racing again, maybe that doesn’t. Only time will tell. Please stop telling me what I should or should not do. I’ll let you know when I decide.”

Vonn stated that she’s only concerned with her recovery right now.
“Also… just because I’m not ready to talk about retiring, doesn’t mean I’m racing… it means I’m not ready to think about it yet,” wrote Vonn in a post following up. “Rehab and recovery first…decide on where I go next in life later. Lots of life left to live. Will cross that bridge when I get to it.”
