Fox News host Harris Faulkner appeared Thursday on Fox Business’ “Kudlow” to demand a bipartisan push to get to the bottom of what happened at President Donald Trump’s rally in Butler, Pa. one year ago, when a shooter attempted to kill the then-presidential candidate.
Twenty-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks attempted to kill Trump on July 13, 2024 while speaking to supporters at his rally in Butler. Faulkner asked host Larry Kudlow why people haven’t continued to press about the incident, especially since little information about the shooter and his motive has been made public. “[Former U.S. Secret Service Director] Kimberly Cheatle. Remember her?” Faulkner asked. “So, I had just interviewed with [Republican Tennessee] Senator Marsha Blackburn after the chase. Remember they were chasing Kimberly Cheatle? For some reason, she showed up and wanted to be part of the fanfare. Why would you go to the convention and not expect people would want to know about your team that you were leading and where were the failures that led to a president being shot in, you know, grazed in the ear and someone dying and others being injured? Like, where were you?”

“I don’t know what she thought, but Senator Blackburn and others physically chased her down to try to get answers. I think we should still be doing that with members of Biden’s team. In a very helpful way, do it with the law books and not physically chasing them in five-inch heels like the senator,” Faulkner added. “But why are we not pressing as a wider public? And it should be bipartisan.”
According to multiple reports on Wednesday, six U.S. Secret Service agents have been suspended in connection to their failures at the Butler rally. The suspensions had allegedly been issued in recent months, with agents being given the right to appeal the 10- to 42-day punishments, ABC News reported.
At the time of the event in July 2024, Crooks had been able to fire off multiple rounds into the crowd, with a bullet grazing Trump’s ear, injuring some crowd members and ultimately killing former volunteer fire chief Corey Comperatore. A report from The Wall Street Journal said Crooks reportedly flew a drone over the Pennsylvania site, capturing aerial footage of the rally setup hours before the incident.
Quickly after the attack, lawmakers questioned Cheatle’s leadership as well as the failure of the Secret Service. Cheatle was called into a congressional hearing and faced bipartisan scrutiny over major security lapses. By July 23, 2024, Cheatle announced her resignation from the Secret Service, telling her staff in an email that she takes “full responsibility for the security lapse.”
Roughly nine weeks after Crooks attempted to kill Trump, 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh was arrested by officials for allegedly attempting to assassinate Trump at the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Fla.
