Talk about a power couple.
Brandi Holt, who is from Homedale, Idaho, is officially the owner of the catch-and-release state record when it comes to flathead catfish after she landed one that’s a whopping 44 inches. She caught the fish Aug. 2 in Snake River.
And here’s where the story gets even more fun: She broke her husband Jerry’s record.
When Brandi caught the massive fish to break the record, the couple was on a fishing date night.
“We launched our 21-foot aluminum jet boat into the Snake River about dusk and just cruised around for a while enjoying the evening,” said Brandi to Outdoor Life. “When it got dark we anchored our boat near shore in a 14-foot hole that we know pretty well.”
The hole that Brandi is talking about is the exact one where her husband snatched a 43-inch flathead catfish back in 2022, as well as the record-setting 42-incher in 2020. Both of those fish were netted by Brandi.

“About an hour later my rod started to wiggle, I grabbed it, and there was no doubt it was a big flathead catfish on the line,” said Brandi. “It was like being hooked to a giant log.”
Following a quick but solid fight from the catfish, it surfaced. That’s when the couple got the 44-inch measurement, documented their catch and then released the fish back into the river.
“I told him it was about time he netted a big one for me,” said Brandi.
