A plane attempting an emergency landing on Interstate 95 in Cocoa, Florida, struck a car during rush hour on Monday evening, leaving one driver injured and prompting investigations by state and federal authorities.
The crash occurred around 5:45 p.m. in the southbound lanes, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The aircraft, described by officials as a “fixed-wing multi-engine aircraft,” came down suddenly over the interstate and collided with a 2023 Toyota Camry.
Dashcam footage recorded from a vehicle traveling directly behind the Camry showed the plane descending rapidly toward the roadway before striking the back of the car.
The impact caused the aircraft to lift briefly, bounce, and come down again just to the left of the vehicle, creating sparks as it scraped along the pavement.
UPDATE: A driver sustained minor injuries when a plane crashed onto their car while landing on Interstate 95 in Brevard County, Florida, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Authorities said the 57-year-old female driver of the Camry was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. She was the only person in the vehicle.
The 27-year-old pilot from Orlando and his 27-year-old passenger from Temple Terrace were not injured in the incident.
Both remained at the scene following the crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Witnesses driving behind the Camry described the moment the aircraft descended toward the roadway.
“We just saw this plane drop out of the sky,” Jim Coffey told Spectrum News 13. Coffey said the aircraft passed just ahead of his vehicle before striking the Camry.
His son, Peter Coffey, who was also in the vehicle, recalled seeing the plane approaching quickly.
“I noticed it was there, because there’s a plane right there, I was like, ‘Hopefully it lands to the side,’” he said.
He added that he believed the pilot might steer away from the traffic lane before the impact occurred.
“I thought it might maybe aim around and not hit the car, but bam, the wheel just smacked right dab on the back of the car.”
Jim Coffey said the outcome could have been worse given the traffic conditions.
“Fortunately, the car didn’t roll, it kind of mashed and went to the side,” he said.
Photographs taken after the crash showed significant damage to the rear of the Camry, with the trunk area crushed and debris scattered across the roadway.
Images of the aircraft showed that its nose and wheel assembly had been torn away during the collision.

The Federal Aviation Administration will lead the investigation into the emergency landing and the circumstances that caused the pilot to bring the aircraft down on the interstate.
The Florida Highway Patrol will conduct a separate crash investigation. Both agencies said additional information will be released as their inquiries progress.
