Wizards Pull Savage April Fools’ Prank, And Then Apologize With Claim That I’m Not Sure I Believe

This is just brutal, absolutely brutal.

As a 35-year-old man, I can’t even remember the last time I took part in April Fools’ Day. Even with kids, I just have no interest, and I’m proud to say that they have no interest either. It’s just another day to make a dollar as far as I’m concerned. And it’s partly because of what I’m about to bring to your attention: sometimes, “pranks” can just be outright mean.

The Washington Wizards pulled one of the most savage April Fools’ pranks Wednesday night, doing it to what appeared to be a fan, and this was some nasty work, folks. (RELATED: Bulls Cut Jaden Ivey After He Brands NBA’s Pride Month As ‘Unrighteousness’)

So, the Wizards brought out the “fan” to try a blindfolded shot from half-court, and if he made it, he’d get $10,000. My man fired off the shot, with a siren blaring off after the fact and the crowd going crazy, the announcer was also shouting. The “fan” even had a load of mascots rushing him on the court and creating a glorious scene. It was an absolutely incredible shot to win $10K.

There was just one problem though: He didn’t actually hit the shot.

The Wizards had the “fan” look up at the jumbotron so he could see the replay, and that’s when he realized … he had been punk’d, made out to be an April Fool. In other words, he didn’t actually win the money, and just … ouch.

JUST IN: The Wizards have issued an apology after they appeared to have pranked a fan into thinking he won $10,000 by pretending he made a blindfolded half-court shot.

The Wizards say the skit was scripted and all participants were in on the joke.

Needless to say, the good people of social media were not happy whatsoever with the prank, and this would force the Wizards to apologize Thursday. And here’s what makes the situation even crazier: They claimed the “fan” wasn’t actually a fan after all. And quite frankly, I’m not sure I believe them with how crazy this whole thing is.

“We apologize for last night’s April Fools’ joke that left many wondering if we had misled a fan,” said the Wizards in an official statement.

“The skit involving our mascot and other members of our performance team was scripted and intended to celebrate the day. All participants were in on the joke, but we missed the mark. Our fans are our priority, and we continue to be committed to providing a positive experience to all who attend our games.”
