Wounded Hero Breaks Silence On Deadly Australian Terror Attack From Hospital

A man caught on video rushing an alleged gunman and seizing a firearm thanked supporters from his hospital bed in footage posted Monday

The man, identified as 43-year-old Ahmed al Ahmed, took action during the Bondi Beach, Australia, shooting, according to Turkish broadcaster TRT World. 15 people were killed as a result of the attack, ABC News reported.

“I appreciate the efforts of everyone,” al Ahmed said in the video with English subtitles provided by TRT World. “I ask my mother, the apple of my eye, to pray for me. Pray for me, my mother. May Allah grant you a long life. God willing, it will be a minor injury.” (RELATED: FLASHBACK: Islamists Gathered To Chant ‘F*ck The Jews’ After Oct. 7 Just Minutes From Beach Shooting Site)

Al Ahmed is a fruit shop owner and father of two, according to ABC News. Video showed him running toward one of the alleged gunmen and wrestling away his weapon during Sunday’s attack on a Hanukkah celebration at Sydney’s Bondi Beach. He forced the alleged attacker to retreat.

He was shot four or five times in the shoulder, leaving bullets inside his body, his parents told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Australian police identified the attackers as a 50-year-old father and his 24-year-old son, according to TRT World. The father was killed at the scene while the son remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called the incident terrorism. “This is a targeted attack on Jewish Australians on the first day of Hanukkah, which should be a day of joy,” Albanese said. “There is no place for this hate, violence and terrorism in our nation.”

The prime minister posted footage Monday on X of him visiting al Ahmed in the hospital. “Ahmed, you are an Australian hero. You put yourself at risk to save others, running towards danger on Bondi Beah and disarming a terrorist,” he wrote, expressing his gratitude on behalf of all Australians.

New South Wales Premier Chris Minns praised al Ahmed’s interference. “A man walking up to a gunman who had fired on the community and single-handedly disarming him, putting his own life at risk to save the lives of countless other people,” Minns said. “That man is a genuine hero.”
