On Tuesday, Texas Rep. Al Green filed articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, which is unsurprising considering the numerous desperate attempts to impeach the president in the past. In just one day, the articles were tabled by the House of Representatives in a 344–79 vote.
Green has most recently become known for his theatrical display during Trump’s House address, which culminated in his removal from the floor. Apparently, the representative sees himself as a crusader against all things Donald Trump, because he picked up the fight against the president again yesterday.
“I believe the hour of decision is upon us and we all have to decide: are we going to choose the path of democracy, [or] the low road of autocracy?” asked the representative.
Like AOC, Green criticized Trump’s decision to bomb Iran, calling this action an abuse of power and sufficient grounds for impeachment.
“No one person,” said Green, “should have the power to take over 300 million people to war without consulting [Congress].”
AOC commented that Trump’s actions “risked launching a war that may ensnare us for generations.”
It is worth noting that the United States is not at war. The 300 million people that AOC and Green were concerned about are safe and still living in peacetime.
Of course, these radically liberal representatives do not truly believe that Trump operated outside of his presidential powers. This is evidenced by the blind eyes they turn to the times when Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden also used military force without Congressional approval.
But Democrats have shown time and again that they do not need a real reason to try and impeach the president. Their talking points remain the same with each new attempt: Trump is a threat to Democracy, unfit for this position, and bucks the justice system.
“This authoritarian president that we currently have… is a would-be dictator who would become a dictator,” Green declared, echoing these sentiments yet again.
If Trump is a dictator, then Democrats will continue to try and impeach him.
The difference now is that cries for impeachment have lost all their charm; no longer is anyone, including the president himself, surprised to hear these threats. In fact, when AOC first suggested impeachment in her Sunday post to X, Trump responded that she should “go ahead and try Impeaching me, again, MAKE MY DAY!”
It took less than 24 hours for the House to table Green’s proposal. In the end, the House voted 344 to 79 to not immediately impeach President Trump. This means that almost 130 Democrats voted to table the proposition.
Even Democrats are voting against this tired ritual. It is time for progressive liberals to lay down the fight or try a different avenue of combating Trump’s decisions.
