‘You should be receiving a salary from your husband’

It’s no secret that stay-at-home moms are an underappreciated asset in society, but one woman’s idea is getting a lot of pushback.

A TikTok creator who prides herself on her financial savvy suggested that husbands should be paying stay-at-home mothers, whom she calls “non-compensated working moms,” a salary.

Watch:

“If you are a stay-at-home mom, you should be receiving a salary from your husband,” the woman said. “If you are a stay-at-home mom, otherwise known as a non-compensated working mom, and you are married to a man, your husband, the compensated partner, should be paying for the uncompensated labor.”

It’s worth pausing here to note that her bio on TikTok reads “Fight the patriarchy. Get Rich.” Which may explain why she’s excluding same-sex couples and households in which women earn the money and men are stay-at-home fathers from her dialogue.

“And yeah, there’s gonna be a lot of pissed off men in the comments, but try to replace you,” she continued. “Try to replace a stay-at-home mom. You’re going to be paying for a chauffeur, a chef, a nanny, a project manager for the house. In fact, recent data has shown that stay-at-home moms, non-compensated working parents, if you had to pay them a salary, it would be at least $175,000 per year.”

“So if you are a non-compensated working mom, if you are a stay-at-home mom, you deserve a salary from your husband. I said it.”

This road trip into the deranged mind of a feminist who doesn’t understand the partnership between parents did not go over well on X:

“If you’re demanding a paycheck for being a wife, you’re not a partner—you’re an employee. And if that paycheck includes access to intimacy, let’s stop pretending: you’re not describing a marriage. You’re describing prostitution. Marriage isn’t a transaction. It’s a covenant. The moment you start charging for your role, you’ve already broken it,” one user wrote.

“I don’t need a specific salary because we are a team. That said, my husband has paid my salary by providing all of the things I need, including allowing me the latitude to determine such things/needs on my own (within reason). Seriously. We have a house, we have vehicles, we have all the needed things. When my vehicle became untrustworthy (by my determination), he wholeheartedly approved of my vehicle shopping mission. When I decided to buy an entire beef (in convenient freezer packages), he endorsed the purchase. The list, over the past 18 years, is basically endless,” wrote another.
