A teacher from a Wisconsin high school has been placed on administrative leave over alleged comments he made on social media in response to a shooting that occurred Saturday night at the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) Dinner.
Patrick Meyer, a social studies teacher from Kaukauana High School, allegedly wrote he was not “impressed with recent presidential assassins,” according to FOX 11 Online. “It’s [expletive] embarrassing! Booth, Guiteau, Czolgosz, Oswald must all be spinning in their graves! MAGAA (make Americans great assassins again)! Sad!,” Meyer added in the same post. Meyer’s LinkedIn page confirms he is employed as a teacher at Kaukauna High School.
Republican Rep. Tony Wied, who represents Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District, shared a screenshot of the since-deleted post on his Facebook page.
“This type of disgusting rhetoric has no place in our society and does not represent our values in #WI08. It is not the example that our teachers should be setting for Northeast Wisconsin students,” Wied said.
The Kaukauna School District indicated it was aware of Meyer’s post, and he has been placed on administrative leave.
“The Kaukauna Area School District has been made aware of a situation involving an employee’s social media post. The District has placed the employee on administrative leave and is taking additional action to review the matter in accordance with its policies and procedures.”
“The Kaukauna Area School District is committed to maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for all students, families, and staff, and unequivocally rejects any conduct, expression, or behavior that may encourage, condone, or promote violence in any form,” the school district said in a statement, according to FOX 11 Online. Concerned parents and other community members also responded to Meyer’s post on the school district’s Facebook page and during a Monday night school board meeting.
“His comment was, ‘Make assassinations great again.’ What does this teach our kids? ‘If you disagree with someone, we should just kill them.’ Right?,” one parent said during the board meeting, FOX 11 Online reported.
Cole Tomas Allen, 31, was charged with the transportation of a firearm and ammunition in interstate commerce with intent to commit a felony, discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence, and attempt to assassinate the U.S. president following the Saturday night shooting. He allegedly rushed a security checkpoint at the WHCA Dinner before he was detained and taken into custody.
Allen also allegedly sent a manifesto to family members attacking President Donald Trump and his administration about 10 minutes before the shooting.
The Daily Caller contacted Kaukauna High School for comment, but has not heard back as of publication.
